In partnership with the Ministry of Education, 5 Saudi students affiliated with the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba", won multiple medals at the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad 2023 (JBMO2023), held in Albania - Tirana then they got 5 medals (two silver, and 3 bronze ). This was the 27th session of the event which was held from June 23 to 28, with 115 students, representing 19 countries, engaged.
Student Elias Al-Faraj, from the Eastern Province Education Department, who received 2280 training hours, won a silver medal; Student Abdulsalam Al-Salami, from Madina Education Department, who received 1560 training hours, won a silver medal, while Student Abdullah Al-Amer, from the Eastern Education Department, who received 1560 training hours got bronze medal; and Student Muhammad Al-Saeed from the Al-Ahsa Education Department, who received 3000 training hours won another bronze medal. Finally, Student Ahmed Al-Shehri, from Riyadh Education Department, who trained 2280 training hours received a bronze medal.
This win is added to the series of successive achievements accomplished by the talented sons of the country and reflects the concerted efforts between Mawhiba and their partners to realize KSA Vision 2030 objectives. The capabilities of the students of the country and their accomplishment of various achievements at the international level, which will contribute to building the future of the country and enhancing its human wealth should be well praised. The Secretary-General of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba", Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazza, explained.
This is the 12th occasion for KSA team to engage in the JBMO, where the Saudi team achieved 53 medals, including 9 gold, 23 silver, and 26 bronze.
The Kingdom's achievement in JBMO extends the series of global scientific achievements in international competitions in which the Kingdom engages, represented by the Ministry of Education and Mawhiba and this achievement reflects the fruit of cooperation between them and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to train and qualify the Saudi mathematics team to be award-winning.
The students participating in the competition were selected after a series of strict tests held by "Mawhiba" during the intensive training period held for all participating students. Team members participating in this competition underwent intensive training that lasted for three years led by a group of distinguished national and international trainers.
JBMO competition is held annually, and organized annually by one of the Balkan countries and Cyprus. The State of Yugoslavia hosted the first session of the competition in 1997. Each country participates with a team not exceeding six students below 15 years at the beginning of the competition, which takes only one day.
