350 high school students of different provinces of the KSA turned into researchers
in four research fields, as part of Mawhiba Research Enrichment Program, which
has been launched yesterday by King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for
Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba”, in a distinguished partnership with 7
universities and research centers in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dhahran and Dammam, which
will last for 4 weeks, until August 18.
The
program will be held in person with the participation of 290 male and female
students, and remotely with the participation of 60 male and female students.
The participants in person amount to 181 male and female students in the
research programs held in Riyadh. They are hosted by King Abdulaziz City for
Science and Technology, King Saud University, King Faisal Specialist Hospital
and Research Center and King Abdullah International Medical Research Center,
while 45 male and female students participate in the program held at King
Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, 28 male and female students at King Fahd
University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran and 36 female students at Imam
Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in Dammam.
In
addition, “Mawhiba” said in an
official statement: Mawhiba Research Enrichment Program is carried out in
partnership with entities leading in scientific and technical disciplines. It
focuses on developing students’
scientific research skills, through actual practice on real research of
scientific value in laboratories.
The
statement added: “Mawhiba” took it upon
itself to keep pace with the best technologies, sciences and direct and virtual
teaching methods in its enrichment programs, while creating suitable
environments for creativity, learning and motivation, taking into account all
aspects of qualification and training for students and providing them with
twenty-first century skills by an elite group of the best instructors,
academics and specialized experts.
The
students will work with their supervisors on research projects in areas of
development priority, in the fields of health, engineering, energy, artificial
intelligence, environmental research and pharmaceuticals.
Mawhiba
Research Enrichment Program aims to acquaint students with the basics and
ethics of scientific research and the resulting intellectual property, in
addition to providing them with skills related to scientific research such as
the skills of using laboratories, safety of laboratories and materials,
conducting experiments, analyzing data, extracting results, writing scientific
reports, coming up with authentic research ideas, learning to write scientific
research summaries, in addition to developing personal and professional skills.
The
participating students will be able to participate with their research in the
National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity “Ibdaa 2023”, the annual
national competition considered as a gateway to global participation in the
International Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held in 2023 in
Texas, USA.
Mawhiba
Research Enrichment Program also seeks to invest in students during the study
period, in preparation for entering the field of research and assisting them in
specifying their scientific track, in order to develop their future goals,
contact researchers and specialists working in research centers and benefit
from their expertise, in addition to receiving specialized support and
scientific guidance, while conducting research with which they can participate
in local and international competitions.
Mawhiba’s
enrichment programs are one of 20 initiatives and programs provided by Mawhiba
to its discovered students, as part of a journey through which they go through
various scientific experiments, in an interesting and motivating manner, and
according to global experiences. They undergo training and qualification stages
therein.
